Play-based Workshops (Ages 2.5yrs & Up)

All workshops are led by Coach Jarrel, Artist & Educator.

  • 25+ years of youth work experience from San Francisco to East Africa

All offerings are fun, age-appropriate, and educational, with a strong emphasis on experiential and play-based learning. Coach Jarrel has experience working with all ages, including youth with special needs, and brings his own equipment and teaching materials to every session.

  1. A Game Called Capoeira (Ages 4+)

    Participants are introduced to the Afro-Brazilian art form of Capoeira. The class blends martial arts, acrobatics, music, and dance in a fun, relaxed, community-oriented, and play-based environment.

  1. Music of Capoeira (Ages 4+)

    Participants are introduced to the rich Afro-Brazilian music and traditional instruments of Capoeira, including the berimbau, pandeiro, atabaque, agogô, and reco-reco.

  1. Circus Games (Ages 4+)

    Participants explore basic circus skills including juggling, acrobatics, pyramids, and fun carnival games. A short, inspiring circus film is shared at the end of each class.

  1. Rhythm and Dance (Ages 4+)

    Participants are introduced to Maculele, a vibrant African traditional dance. They learn rhythm, stick-patterned partner movements, and drumming in a fun, relaxed, community and play-based environment.

  1. Acro Lab & Gymnastics (Ages 2.5+) 

    (Also available as parent-child classes)
    Flips, tricks, and upside-down movements in a safe and fun environment! Children explore their bodies through the fundamentals of acrobatics, drawing from gymnastics tumbling, Capoeira, circus acrobatics, and tricking.

  1. Mask Making Magic! (Ages 6+)

    Join this hands-on, high-energy mask-making class where kids become artists, storytellers, and explorers of their amazing selves. Using archetypes (warrior, trickster, explorer, creator, etc.) and their own superpowers/strengths as inspiration, participants design expressive masks with vibrant paints, markers, feathers, glitter, fabric, beads, and more.

  1. Action Capture: Instant Photo Stories (Ages 7+)

    Kids explore the basics of photography and visual storytelling through movement, poses, and creative scenes. After a quick introduction to simple techniques, they capture action shots, print their favorites instantly, add captions or short stories, and create a mini photo story to take home.

  1. Laser Tag Team Challenge (Ages 8+)

    Kids jump into an exciting, high-energy experience filled with movement, strategy, and glowing gameplay. Using safe, light-up laser tag equipment (no projectiles), participants engage in interactive challenges that build cooperation, quick thinking, and friendly competition in an inclusive, active environment.

  1. Identity Collage: Self-Portrait & Poetry (Ages 7+)

    Kids explore identity and self-expression through a mixed-media art project that combines collage, side-angle self-portrait, and poetry. Using color, symbols, paint, and guided writing, participants create a powerful visual and written representation of who they are.

  1. Vision Board Collage: My Future Self (Ages 7+)

    Kids create a vibrant self-portrait vision board collage that represents their goals, dreams, and best self for the upcoming summer or school year. Using magazines, stickers, colorful paper, paint, fabric scraps, photos, and found objects, participants combine a self-portrait with powerful images, words, and symbols. This hands-on workshop encourages creativity, self-reflection, and positive intention-setting in a fun and supportive environment.
